As part of their subscription, Nintendo Switch Online users are given some additional games to play on various Nintendo Classics apps. The previous game launch on the Switch Online service saw the arrival of Luigi's Mansion for the GameCube on October 30. However, accessing the GameCube app requires both a Switch 2 console and an active NSO membership with the Expansion Pack upgrade, which carries an annual fee of $50. However, NSO members with the basic, $20 annual subscription can still download the NES, SNES, and Game Boy apps and play games that arrive periodically.
Over a month after Nintendo shadowdropped three SNES classics for users to try out, the gaming giant surprised Switch Online users with four more games to play. The only first-party Nintendo game that was released in this wave was Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters for the Game Boy. Of Myths and Monsters is a sequel to the original Kid Icarus title released on the NES, and was the last title in the series to be released until the 2011 launch of Kid Icarus: Uprising on the 3DS.

Joining Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters on the Game Boy app is the Capcom title Bionic Commando, a side-scrolling platformer. Alongside both Game Boy titles, NES fans can now play Ninja Gaiden 2: The Dark Sword of Chaos and Battletoads on their Switch consoles. Battletoads in particular is considered one of the most difficult games developed by Rare.
